Homeopathic Miasms come up a lot in our healing plans. Clients are always sending me the ‘please explain’ email over miasms as they can be quite confronting. I hope this post helps to explain what they are and how they are used in the healing process.
Miasm means a cloud or fog in the being. We can see this as a defect, a root cause, shadow over the constitution of a person/animal, a fragment of a disease passed down the genetic line.
Homeopathically a miasm is a supposed predisposition to a particular disease, either inherited or acquired.
Our healing plans identify the load a person or animal is carrying whether it be inherited, accumulated or current. It appears that the immune system is diverted in attending to the issue whether it’s current or not. As you can imagine over the years you lose a lot of your immune system function as it goes off to deal with issues it perceives are going to damage your body. Clearing the issues at the cellular level releases the immune system, so it can go back to dealing with current issues. In our world, this is how we improve/stimulate the immune system to better function.
We all know that cancer seems to run in families. That has been discussed for decades. “Be careful, have the tests done because someone in the family line has had this cancer or that cancer.” We have all heard this from someone in our lives. In my family heart issues are very common. My grandfather had heart disease, my grandmother cardiomyopathy, my dad has had open heart surgery and most of his family struggle with some sort of heart issue.
Back in the early 1800’s the developer of Homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann considered the underlying issues of his clients to be these inherited miasms. Although it rocked the medical world and even his fellow Homeopaths, Hahnemann never waivered in his thoughts and now it is common knowledge that many underlying issues are inherited.
In his time he consider three main miasms – sycosis, syphilis and psora.
Sycosis
This miasm is held to be responsible for many sexual and urinary disorders and affects of the joints and the mucous membranes. Also those conditions worsened by damp weather and by contact with the sea – arthritis, rheumatism, asthma, catarrhs, bronchitis, cystitis, warts.
Syphilis
This miasm is held to be responsible for many diseases of the nervous system, the blood and skeleton as well as psychological disorders, including alcoholism, depression, suicidal impulses, insanity, loss of smell and taste, blindness, deafness and ulcers. Heart conditions, some skin eruptions.
Psora
Hahnemann believed that all non veneral chronic diseases are Psoric. That includes chronic diseases like skin disturbances, mental illness other than syphilitic ones, allergies, varicose veins, haemorrhoids, dysfunction of organs and systems.
Just three miams. We now live in a different world. 200 years later we have so much more to load on us. The current list is a little longer. Heavy Metal Miasm, Petro-chemical Miasm, Radiation Miasm, Cancer Miasm, Tuberculosis Miasm, plus the original three.
Heavy metal miasm
We see this as autoimmune disease, liver and kidney disease, crown’s disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia, leaky gut syndrome, neuromuscular disorders.
Petro-chemical miasm
This presents as low self-esteem, anxiety, low resistance to stress, mood swings or erratic behaviour. Also can affect adrenals, liver, endocrine system and immune system, heart disease, thymus, obesity, fluid retention, diabetes, hair loss, skin blemishes, impotence, muscular degeneration, viral inflammations, arthritis, autism, skin and lymph blockages.
Radiation miasm
Symptoms are nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, headaches, fever, dizziness and disorientation, weakness, fatigue, hair loss, bloody vomit and stools, infections, poor wound healing, low blood pressure.
Cancer Miasm
Releases inherited tendency to cancer.
Tuberculosis Miasm
Symptoms are tiredness, motion causes intense fatigue, aversion to work, wants constant changes. Rapid emaciation – extreme weight loss, unnatural thinness, epilepsy, neurasthenia, nervousness. Sensitivity mentally and physically. Trembling. Arthritis. Enlarged tonsils. Hard, dry cough during sleep. Expectoration thick, easy. Profuse bronchorrhoea. Shortness of breath. Sensation of suffocation. Broncho-pneumonia.
Other Miasms
At Heal with Ease we don’t believe the above are the only inherited issues you can have and we are constantly on the look out for more general and specific things to our to our testing. For example emotional traumas and medication load.
